Using Bifocals? Self Adjusting Glasses on the Horizon

People who wear bifocal glasses are familiar with the problem of how your vision gets distorted when you’re looking downwards at the ground. Well there’s some good news. PixelOptics is hoping to reintroduce Empower lenses in the next few months after modifying their original version. According to reports published in the Daily Mail and abc News, the empower spectacles contain the first electronic focus lenses which can self-adjust. According to Miesha Frempong, MD, an assistant professor of ophthalmology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, in New York City, said that even if the prescription is slightly off, she doesn't worry about eye damage, except in the case of young children with still-developing vision.

However, Frempong also pointed out that the technology isn’t perfect and was concerned that these self-adjusting lenses may not correct vision as precisely as traditional glasses. Also the cost may be a deterrent for many since currently the EmPower lenses start at $1,200.

So till such time as this technology is perfected and affordable, should you be in need of prescription eyeglasses, drop in your nearest 20/20 Eyeglass Superstore in Florida. They have “A Frame for Every Face and a Price for Any Budget®.” You can even try the frames before you buy! Just use the 20/20 Eyeglass Superstore’s Virtual Try-On application and save the results.
