Artificial vision becoming a reality

In an article by Jay Greene published on crainsdetroit.com in which he quoted Philip Hessburg, M.D the Medical Director of the Detroit Institute of Ophthalmology who said that he believes the blind will see — eventually and through medical research.

Second Sight’s Argus II is a retinal implant designed to provide electrical stimulation to the retina and is only the beginning of devices that will be developed by scientists across the globe that will give much greater range of vision to the blind.

This is good news for the blind people because they get a chance to see the world or things by the range of artificial vision. For more information you can read the original article on Crains Detroit.

Herbal Remedies for Eye Problems

The first thing we’d like to highlight is even before using any herbal remedy you should ALWAYS CONSULT with a health professional.

Eyes are delicate and can suffer from problems like mild irritation, redness, loss of vision and many more. The way our body needs, our eyes too need breaks. Taking care of our eyes is very important because negligence can be very costly, so much so that one can even go blind.

It’s not necessary to always solve eye problems by taking prescription drugs like pain killer pills. There are some herbal remedies also which can treat your eye problems easily.

Herbs like eyebright, chickweed, elderflower, and chamomile are known to help heal many eye problems including conjunctivitis.

Herbal eye-washes have been used for centuries to treat conjunctivitis and other eye problems. Herbal teas were carefully strained and cooled before application. Cucumber slices and wet tea bags are good for puffy and tired eyes. So are cool compresses made with rosewater, calendula, cornflower, or strawberry leaves.

For more details you can read the original article published on evergreenherb.com

Eyes are our window to the world and very sensitive. We should always take care of our eye health. Many eye problems require the medical intervention but there are some problems that you can treat safely at home, as long as they are relatively simple.

Negligence and improper care can take a toll on your eyesight. 20/20 Eyeglass Superstore® keeps you updated on eye health news and various tips about eye care.

Eye Safety at Work Is Everyone’s Business

While your workplace may provide you tools or safety equipment and some kind of protective gear, they cannot issue you a new set of eyes. If something happens to your eyes, there is nothing that can fix your eyes. Medical science can replace a lot of things on and in your body, but when your eyes are gone, they are gone forever.

Your eyes are very delicate and can easily get damaged. It’s not necessary that only a hard blow will cause injury. In fact it could just take a tiny sliver or speck of metal, a dust particle, or trace chemical to do great damage.

OSHA rules establish minimum standards for both employer and employee, and a portion of that standard dealing with eye and face protection standards says:

The employer shall ensure that each affected employee uses eye or face protection when exposed to eye  or face hazards from flying particles, molten metal’s, liquids, chemicals, acids or caustic liquids, chemical Gases or vapors, or potentially injurious light radiation.”

Be protective about your eyes while working. To have a pair of prescription eyeglasses on hand is a good idea. If you wear contact lenses, remember: a contact lens was not designed to provide eye protection. Use prescription eyeglasses in case you need to remove your contact lenses.

For more information about Eye Safety at Work you can read the original article published on National Eye Institute by clicking here.

Eye injuries in the workplace are very common. If you’re in the market for prescription eyeglasses and live in Orange City, Melbourne or Orlando, drop by 20/20 Eyeglass Superstore for all your eyeglass, contact and sunglasses needs. We look forward to seeing you!

Treatments and Makeup Fixes for Eye Problems

The three problems that she illustrates about are flat lines, puffiness and dark circles, and given below is an extract of her recommendations.

Fine Lines: The eye area is full of muscles, so every smile, frown, and squint causes the skin to wrinkle up. As collagen deep in the skin decreases over time, those wrinkles don't go away. If your skin is dry, they may be more noticeable. Use an eye cream, either in the morning or at night. Keep wrinkled skin free of concealer, as it can settle into lines and make them more noticeable.

Puffiness: Most likely, it’s fluid retention. When you eat salty foods or drink a lot of alcohol, your body can draw extra fluids into its tissues and hold them in. The fluids can pool under your eyes, causing puffiness. Apply a cold compress to your eyes for 10 minutes.

Dark Circles: That purply color is usually caused by dark veins showing through. Some people genetically have this or the lack of sleep can make blood vessels dilate which forms dark circles. Use an eye cream to plump skin from the outside, which will make the veins underneath a little less visible.
