Night blindness

Night blindness aka nyctalopia is when you experience poor vision at night or in dimly lit environments. Night Blindness doesn’t mean that you can’t see at night instead that you may just have more difficulty seeing and/or driving in darkness.

There are a number of eye conditions which can cause night blindness like nearsightedness, cataracts, retinitis pigmentosa, usher syndrome etc. Some types of night blindness are treatable, and others are not.

The sole symptom of night blindness is difficulty seeing in the dark, and you’re more likely to suffer from night blindness when transitioning from a bright environment to an area of low light.

Your eye doctor will take a detailed medical history and examine your eyes in order to diagnose night blindness. Taking care of your eyes is very important.

For more information you can read the original article by Marissa Selner and medically reviewed by George Krucik, MD published on Healthline.
