How Caffeine Affects Eyesight

Have you ever wondered what the jolt of caffeine is doing to your body? Did you know that besides perking you up in the morning and giving you a pick-me-up in the evening, caffeine can have many negative effects on your body. Many times, a single cup of strong coffee can wake you up from a dead sleep because it’s a drug,

Caffeine is found in cocoa beans, coffee beans and even tea, and is a drug that is classified as a stimulant. New research found in The Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology suggests that people who consume heavy amounts of caffeine put themselves at a higher risk of losing their vision.

According to the researchers people who consume three cups or more of caffeinated coffee per day were at a higher risk of developing exfoliation glaucoma, which is a known cause of blindness.

Even though eye issues in relation to caffeine intake are seemingly rare, they do occur, along with many other health issues, so it would be best to cut back. If you do notice that you experience a change in your vision, then call your doctor.
