Corneal Laceration

A corneal laceration is a cut on the cornea and is usually caused by something sharp flying into the eye or something striking the eye with significant force, like a metallic hand tool.

A corneal laceration is deeper than a corneal abrasion, cutting partially or fully through the cornea.

A corneal laceration is a very serious injury and requires immediate medical attention to avoid severe vision loss.
You should follow these steps if your eye has been injured.

· Gently place a shield over the eye.
· DO NOT rinse with water.
· DO NOT remove the object stuck in eye.
· DO NOT rub or apply pressure to eye.
· Avoid giving drugs because these drugs thin the blood and may increase bleeding.

A corneal laceration symptom includes severe pain, tearing, sensitivity of light, blurred vision etc. Any activity in which objects can fly into the eye at high speed can cause a corneal laceration.

For more details you can read the original article published on geteyesmart.org.

If you are concerned about your vision you should visit your optometrist for a full eye examination.

Here at 20/20 Eyeglass Superstore you can drop into any of our three locations (Orange City, Winter Park or Melbourne) and meet with an Independent Optometrist. All we ask is that you allow at least 15 minutes filling out the required paperwork beforehand.  Feel free to book your appointment online too.
